Replacing the jet diffuser may be an option if the tabs that hold the jet in housing are broken and the rest of the diffuser is in good condition. If the diffuser flakes off and becomes brittle, it is recommanded to replace the whole jet. Why? If the diffuser deteriorates, the remains of the jet components, including bearings, probably are. This is caused by low Alkalinity, pH or Calcium. The white residue that emerges from the diffuser is not scale, but the plastic is deteriorating. In this case, the diffuser replacement may be a good short term solution, but you will very much need a new jet very soon.
